The company has its foundations in the automobile industry. In 1937, Soichiro Honda founded Tokai Seiki, a parts manufacturing enterprise. However, the economy didn’t support his business and so it foundered. Following the conclusion of World War II, this determined entrepreneur tried again after taking some time to improve his product lines. The Honda Motor Company opened in 1949. Partner Takeo Fujisawa came on board as Soichiro’s right-hand man when it came to designing reliable and top-quality automobiles for the Japanese public.

The very same year they began to make cars, Honda also entered the powersports market simultaneously with their first motorcycle. Called the D-type (“D” standing for “Dream”), this motorcycle boosted the company’s revenue until they became the world’s largest motorcycle manufacturer by 1964. They still hold this title to this day, even in the 21st century!
